Opening the night was Adult Mom, an indie rock band from New York. At center stage was Stevie Knipe, guitar in hand. Her voice filled the room as concert goers filled in. Her vulnerable and honest lyrics set the stage for a night that was going to be filled many emotions.

Next up was Ben Kweller, an American Singer/Songwriter. In a room filled with loud noise, and lots of cheers – this band really took hold of the stage. As Kweller takes the stage, he is soon followed by a chorus of voices. With a loud “MCLOVIN” from the crowd, the voices fall into a melody and the instruments create a beautiful harmony. The night is amping up for the big opener.

20 years, 7.305 days, 10,512,000 Minutes – The crowd has waited. The stage is set, and fans are ready. A lot has happened in 20 years, but memories and favorite lyrics don’t fade that quickly. During the night as The Format takes the stage after a long hiatus, you see bonds and connections. The memories that are connected to these songs, and the new ones to be created with newer songs. I met two friends during this show, who had listened to the band when they first came out, and had inspired them to create their own music. The shared smiles on their faces during their favorite song, this is what music is for. The music filled the room and fans cheered. After 20 years gone, their fans were still there and waiting for them. They held space for them and showed up. They also threw in a cover of “Hey Jealousy”, and a 3-song encore to end the night.
