Lets start with getting to know a little bit about Jesika and her background.
Hello! My name is Jesika Ovstedal, a Licensed Esthetician and Certified lash tech. Salon-Based in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Services offered include: Lash Extensions, Brow Waxing, Body Waxing, Lash Lifts + Tints, Brow Lamination, Facials and many different service add-ons! 2 years in business and counting; my passion for the beauty industry grows daily.
How did you get started in the beauty business? I always enjoyed playing with makeup, hair, nails, and skincare since a young girl. When I went through a small rough patch at 18, I got Lash Extensions done and I’ll never forget the confidence boost it gave me, I haven’t looked back since and always kept my lashes done. I wanted to give other ladies that same confidence boost and make women feel amazing!
How did you go about finding your first clients? I took several model sets to start building my portfolio. Making sure to take photos of all of my sets in the beginning to share on social media.
What inspires you? To start off my Dad inspires me, anybody who knows me knows how much of a role model my Father has been for me. He has always inspired me to keep going and always told me “do something you truly enjoy, you’ll never work a day in your life.” My clients, friends & family inspire me to keep going farther, always shooting for the stars. My support system is amazing and inspiring!
Have you had any struggles along the way in your journey? Yes. I'm pretty sure we all do! Starting my own business from the ground up was not easy. I had a lot of obstacles along the way, but I kept going and am figuring things out along the way.
What is your favorite thing about your job? My clients hands down. I am truly blessed with the most amazing lash babes!! All of the laughs, deep conversations, hugs, milestones, etc. I love every moment spent in the salon.
What shouldn't a client do before and after an eyelash procedure? Before arriving to a lash appointment, contacts and any makeup/strip lash glue should be removed. Aftercare is simple: wash daily with a Lash Shampoo, dry + brushing through with a spoolie to keep them fluffy and clean!
What do you think makes a great lash tech? Being knowledgeable in your craft. While achieving what your client desires, also incorporating your own ideas of what style suits their eye shape/features best. Keeping a clean and sanitary treatment room. Punctual, keeping your clients comfort in mind at all times.
